One-third of the population of The Gambia, a
small country built around the river, lives in the capital, Banjul. The
city is no more than a metre above sea level. Mangrove swamps and
tropical forests surround Banjul. The River Gambia flows right through
it. The Abuko Natural Reserve is just 20km away, with a marvelous array
of birds and wildlife.
